"Vigilant Shepherd" by James Wille Faust (1996).
This piece represents the artist's impressions of NASA and the environment. During its first decade NASA was tightly focused on the Moon. Pictures of the Earth helped to bring about a shift in emphasis in the space programme, and the whole Earth became an environmentalist icon. In this composite of many images from the history of the space programme, the Earth is firmly at the centre – not what would have been predicted in the 1960s. (NASA)
