Pale Blue Dot.
This picture was one of Carl Sagan’s gifts to humanity. Once the Voyager probe had explored the solar system, at almost the last possible moment, he persuaded NASA to turn the probe round from the orbit of Neptune and photograph six of the inner planets. Earth appears as a pale blue dot, inspiring Sagan’s book of the same name. For some the picture shows that the Earth is nothing special; for others, it underlines its fragile uniqueness.
